I assume it is a priest as she is a catholic, If she confessed and told the priest the true story and asked for forgiveness from God, would the priest at least try and tell her to admit her crime to the police as part of her penance? Would the priest absolve her of her sin and pardon her without a blemish? SallyJ: So by not telling the police, is through her confession with the priest her sin is absolved!!!
Answer: The confessional works this way: the priest cannot betray the confessor's confidentiality, i.e. he cannot tell anybody what was said. But most priests do try to convince confessors to tell the police what they know.
