Why does Daisy stay with Tom in The Great Gatsby?

Question: This is my essay question: Given the extremely negative light in which Tom is portrayed throughout the novel, why might Daisy choose to remain with him instead of leaving him for Gatsby? Give examples from the novel to support your paper.

Answer: Daisy, although she loved Gatsby, had a comfortable life with Tom. She was a dreamer, yes, but wouldn't leave him. She was too idealistic.
